Mr. Xenomurphy's Superhero Contest 2013 Round 2

In Round 2, Superheroes bracket, the three builders who advanced from round 1 had to either build a pet for a hero, or make a full comic page.

Dave Kaleta built this great rendition of Bat-Cow (actually from an issue of Batman, btw).


Delatron 3000 built Eddie Brock's fish tank.


But Captain Nemo won with his Flash Turtle.

Mr. Xenomurphy's Superhero Contest 2013 Round 1

In the the Sidekicks bracket for Round 1 of Mr. Xenomurphy's Superhero Contest 2013, builders could either create a vig for a battle between their own custom superhero and his arch enemy, or have a supervillain creating a trap for a hero. Here are the top three scorers:

Max Pointner came up with a battle between Mr. Stereotype and the Iron Giant.


Seth Bryan built the Mirror House from Batman, the Black Mirror.

$20,000 LEGO DC Universe Super Heroes Video Contest

Over on Tongal they are running a $20,000 LEGO DC Universe Super Heroes Video Contest. In phase 1 (deadline july 24), you can win $250 for coming up with an idea for a DC LEGO video. Phase 2 will award $2250 for the best pitch, and in phase 3 the best video will with $17000.

Baby Ock

One of the categories in Mr. Xenomurphy's Superhero Contest 2013 challenges builders to imagine a hero or villain as a parent. Dave Kaleta's lost in the supermarket has Doc Ock shopping with his adorable baby daughter.

Wings of Justice Contest

FBTB is sponsoring a new Wings of Justice contest, challenging you to build a flying vehicle for your favorite hero. You perhaps remember their previous Wheels of Justice contest, so we can anticipate similarly cool MOCs from this new challenge.

Daily Planet

The MOCathalon category 'the elephant and the fly' asks builders to take a full scale model and make it microscale. George G took Mr. Xenomurphy's Superman and Young Justice vs Braniac and made it tiny.

Joker makes a withdrawal

2 Much Caffeine presents Joker makes a withdrawal: "All units, all units... Robbery in progress at Gotham City Bank... Officers down at scene..."
BTW, this is an entry for the Eurobricks LEGO Batman Contest. More on that in a future post.

Upcoming set hint from contest rules

One other piece of news I missed. Classic-Castle forum member Azaghal pointed out that one of the prizes mentioned in the contest at legosuperheroes.com is the "LEGO Super Heroes: DC Universe Batcave set". So we know at least one of the sets. Let the speculation begin on what other sets will be released.

BTW, the contest rules note that "entries will be judged every month through December 2011" and prizes including "the complete 2012 LEGO Super Heroes: DC Universe collection" will be "awarded each month", leading up to the grand prize (which includes a trip to Legoland and Warner Brothers) in December 2011. The press release said that the initial sets will "launch in January 2012", and the Variety article says they "will launch a new set of playthings around next summer's "The Dark Knight Rises" through the Lego Batman collection" (next summer). But I interpret the contest rules as saying that at least a few people will have sets in their hands within the next couple of months (and surely there will be photos posted online). Or perhaps the contest winners will be given IOU's from LEGO promising that they'll get a big package of LEGO on January 1? Time will tell, but if anyone who reads this blog does win one of the contests, please please please send me any information and photos.



BTW, they are already starting to post fan submissions at legosuperheroes.com, including my up, up and away vignette.

Quick follow-up to my previous post. On FBTB (From Bricks to Batman?)* Ace posted a link to the official theme website, LEGOSuperHeroes.com. In addition to seeing three of the figs (and on the site you can rotate the Batman and Green Lantern figs and see that at least Hal is printed on both sides (Bruce is wearing a cape, of course), they also announce a monthly contest to create either a video, photo or drawing of a LEGO DC hero. It looks like you can use either your official Batman theme figs "and/or other LEGO Minifigures in Super Hero style" - I do not know if they mean that you can customize, or that you must use only official elements. Anyway, check out these great figs:

Who knew, both kryptonite and elevators

One of the runners-up in the recent murderous minifigs competition, that asked builders to come up with their own take on the classic Clue game, was Creation Crook's Patient Pumpkin, in the elevator shaft, with the elevator. Apparently elevators work just as well as kryptonite.
